We are working on a development site and was using HikaShop.  There were several factors that did not meet our needs, so in looking at other options we found J2Commerce.  One bonus for your cart was the Migration extension which specifically listed HikaShop as a source for migration to J2Commerce. There was no plugin for HikaShop.

J2Commerce was installed and sample data viewed. After this preview, we decided to migrate the products in HikaShop into J2Commerce.

  • Sample data removed
  • J2Commerce Migrator installed
  • Started Migrator and dashboard indicated that J2Store was not installed.

How do I migrate from HikaShop?

Adam Melcher

Lynn,

We are about 90% completed with the migrator plug-in if you can add the admin credentials for your your pickup shop store, I can actually do the migration for you and fully test plug in at the same time so would be a win-win for both of us.

Your user credentials are set for Administrator.

Adam Melcher

Lynn,

Can you either bump me up to Super User or adjust the ACL permissions to allow me to take an Akeeba backup? I can't properly test and debug anything with my hands tied... :)

I have changed you to Super User.  Sorry for the delay.

Adam Melcher

Lynn,

Not a problem. I never asked your for a specific access level. I will start working on it in a bit.  Thanks.

While we don't grok the magnitude ot this ask, we also know the world isn't coming to an end if it's not done tomorrow.  Call it quits and chill, and return to it in the morning, please!

Lynn,

I finished the migration yesterday on your dev site. Everything looks good except two of the migration cards report as not completed even though the migration history shows they were both successfully migrated. (it's more a visual issue than a functional one). Obviously you need to redo it on the live site and once you have updated everything the way you need to, you can resync the orders, customers, users using the migration tool again to make sure all the data has been successfully migrated. The migration plugin itself should be ready for download on the site in the next day or so.

Thank you so much!  We will be looking it over for the next few days and will give you feedback.

Hi Adam,

Good morning, I was going to respond last night but wanted to try and suss things out on my end first but then it got late, and here we are.

So I'm confused by what you mean by . . .  'except two of the migration cards report as not completed even though the migration history shows they were both successfully migrated. (it's more a visual issue than a functional one).' .

Reason is I poked around and couldn't find what you're speaking of.

The other thing; you mentioned . . .  'Obviously you need to redo it on the live site and once you have updated everything the way you need to, you can resync the orders, customers, users using the migration tool again to make sure all the data has been successfully migrated.'

Does this mean once we take the site live we need to run the migration tool again? I was hoping to remove the HIkaShop altogether before migrating. Or have I misunderstood?

Switching subjects; if you add a product to the cart and go to check out, you'll see there's a check box they uncheck regarding insurance. Basically, customers may elect for us to ship without insurance (otherwise, the package gets insured). We want them to manually decide they don't want insurance and MOVE the monkey off our backs to theirs. This is important for us. Can we do this with your cart?

Lynn,

Those are great questions and apologies for the confusion. I was referring to the J2Commerce Migration Component Hikashop migration tool. Everything on the demo site should have been migrated over to J2Commerce 6 now. The reason I mentioned you would need to run it again is because the orders stopped at the end of May (presuming that is when the demo site was created). You now have more than enough data on the demo site to finish the build out (replacing the templates' hikashop modules with J2Commerce versions, etc) but there will be a point where you will need to put the live site in maintenance mode so you can then use the migration tool to "resync" with the live site's database so you can update the staging site with the orders, users, customers from the live site.

As far as your checkout question with the insurance checkbox,  this should do the trick:

Hi Adam,

It's a curious thing leading us away from HikaShop to J2Commerce. It's entirely due to once we install HikaShop, TinyMCE stops working. HikaShop says install JCE and while it works, John detests JCE with a passion because he constantly has to jump out of the edit screen to scroll slightly to see controls (like for italicizing text). This, on the 1920x1080 screen he uses (he doesn't have to do this with TinyMCE and he literally whinges constantly about it breaking his flow whilst working).

Anyway, I have an installation of Joomla on another domain (one without HikaShop), and TinyMCE works perfectly so his question for me is; if we move to J2Commerce and delete HikaShop, will I have TinyMCE again? Or do we have to do a virgin install? Since I didn't know the answer to his first question, I backed up dev2 we're using to test J2Commerce and removed HikaShop, and unfrotunately, TinyMCE still doesn't work

So because deleting HikaShop on the dev site with J2Commerce didn't help, then it looks like creating a fresh install of Joomla plus J2Commerce is the path forward. But then this opens another can of worms . . . maybe.

This is because the sales, products, and customer data we have within HikaShop are via three .CSV files from our active site (a 3rd party hosted site called Americommerce). So my question for you this; can we bring this CSV data into J2Comerce without the intermediate step of first bringing it into HikaShop, which seems to irrevocably break TinyMCE?

Anyway, I don't want to just attach these CSV files to an open ticket (where presumably anybody could see things we don't want made public). How can we proceed? Can you help, or guide us, please? Or, because it's beyond our ken, could you look and see what's actually breaking TinyMCE, please?

Lynn

Lynn,

We have a (currently unreleased) extension that was built for another client who needs automated imports/exports from csv files into their accounting system (which pushes orders into their system and then pulls order status updates, inventory, and tracking numbers into the website. It's built to handle the very thing you are describing. If you want to send them to support@j2commerce.com I can run them through it on the dev site to make sure it will work with the files (which I am pretty certain it would).

As far as TinyMCE - I am not sure why HikaShop would break that - but I disabled JCE editor and made TinyMCE the default in global config and I just created a new article in the dev2 site and can see the TinyMCE editor working.

It seems you either love or hate JCE Editor - I prefer to keeping things close to core Joomla whenever possible- as far as the csv files, go email them over and I can get them set up for you on the dev site.
