Terms of Use
Terms of Use
The rules for using j2commerce.com and buying extensions here: your GPL software, subscriptions and renewals, payment, your account and what you send us. Plain English, start to finish.
What these terms cover
These terms are between you and J2Commerce, LLC. They cover your use of j2commerce.com, including browsing the site, reading the documentation, creating an account, sending us anything through it and buying extensions. By using the site, you accept them.
Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy. What we collect, and the cookies we use, are in our Privacy Policy.
Our software
J2Commerce and the extensions we publish are licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later. The GPL lets you use, study, change and share the code on as many sites as you like. A copy of the license ships with every download, and nothing in these terms limits the rights the GPL gives you.
What you buy
Each extension purchase gives you two things:
- The extension itself, under the GPL, yours to keep.
- A one-year subscription that starts on the day you buy. It gives you access to new versions through your account and Joomla’s updater, and help from our support team.
The price you see at checkout covers both. Where a listing names a site limit, it applies to the subscription (updates and support), never to your GPL rights in the code.
Renewals and cancellation
Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each year. We charge the payment method saved on your account, so updates and support continue without a gap, and we send a reminder email before each renewal.
You can cancel automatic renewal from your account at any time, and you keep updates and support until the end of the year you paid for. Your extension keeps working after that. Nothing is switched off, locked or removed from your site, and every version you downloaded stays yours. Restart the subscription whenever you want updates and support again.
If a renewal went through that you meant to cancel, our Refund Policy explains how to ask for it back.
Payment and taxes
- Prices are in US dollars. You pay the total shown at checkout before you place your order.
- Payments are handled by Stripe or PayPal. Your card details go to them directly and never reach our servers.
- Where the law requires it, we add sales tax or VAT based on your billing address, and it is shown as its own line before you pay. Businesses with a valid VAT number can enter it so the reverse charge applies.
- Your invoice is in your account as soon as the payment clears, ready to download for your records.
Your Download ID
Your account comes with a Download ID. Paste it into Joomla’s Update Sites screen and every extension with an active subscription updates from your own dashboard.
Treat it like a password. Use it on sites you build or manage, and keep it out of public code repositories and shared downloads. If it ever leaks, reset it from your account and the old one stops working right away.
The site’s content and brand
The GPL covers the software. The rest of the site, including its text, screenshots, illustrations, videos, the J2Commerce name and the logo, belongs to J2Commerce, LLC or the people who license it to us.
- You may read, print and save pages for your own use, and quote short passages with a link back to the page.
- You may not republish whole pages or documentation, sell or license our content, or present it as your own.
- To use the J2Commerce name or logo, follow the guidelines in our Brand Kit.
Linking to us
Anyone may link to any page on j2commerce.com without asking first, as long as the link does not suggest we sponsor or endorse you when we do not. Please do not show our pages inside a frame on your site, or change how they look.
Your account and our services
Your account, your Download ID, the update service and our support are services, and we ask that you use them fairly:
- Keep your account details accurate and your login to yourself and your team.
- Use the update service and support for sites covered by your subscription.
- Treat our support team with respect, and give us the details we need to help you.
You are responsible for what happens under your login, so tell us straight away through the contact form if you think someone else has used it. We may suspend or close an account that is used to break these terms, attack the site or harm other users.
What you send us
Support tickets, feature suggestions, showcase and partner submissions, reviews and other messages stay yours. When you send them, you allow us to store them and use them to answer you, improve J2Commerce and, where the form says the content is for publication, show them on the site.
Only send content you have the right to share. Do not post anything unlawful or abusive, anything that infringes someone else’s rights, or code meant to harm a site. We may remove content that breaks these rules.
Fair use of the site
Please do not try to get around access controls, test the site for vulnerabilities without our written permission, overload it with automated requests, or collect other users’ details. If you find a security issue, report it through our security advisories page so we can fix it.
Links to other sites
The site links to documentation, GitHub, payment providers and other services we do not run. Their own terms and privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Accuracy and availability
We keep the site and documentation accurate and up to date, and we fix mistakes when we find them. We cannot promise that every page is complete, error-free or available at all times.
Liability
We build and test every extension with care, and we fix the defects you report. As the GPL itself states, the software is provided as it is, without a warranty of any kind. Keep backups of your site and test updates on a staging copy before you update your live store.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim about a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for that purchase in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for loss or damage caused by using the free parts of the site or relying on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States. If we ever disagree, we will first try to sort it out together by email. If that does not work, the state and federal courts serving Williamson County, Tennessee will hear the matter.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site and store grow. The version in place when you place an order applies to that order. We post every update on this page, and we email account holders about any change that affects an active subscription.
