on two sites, when I attempt this update I see the following error:

Hi Chris,
like the message is saying, you have too many f0f libraries installed on your system and they will provoke issues down the road.
Not only they will conflict with each other and break the code of J2Commerce, but older versions are no longer maintained (and we are talking about years here) and are not working on the latest PHP versions.
We managed to modify the one library we package with J2Commerce to ensure you can keep using version 4 a bit longer over a few more iterations of Joomla and PHP.
That said, there is a link in that message that takes you to where libraries are.
The one library packaged with J2Commerce 4.0.20 is f0f with verion revAC17961 dated 2024-04-12.
Other versions need to be removed. Make sure you keep the one from J2Commerce!
If you still can't update J2Commerce to v4.1.4, that means some versions of the library are still present on your server and they need to be removed manually. The one to keep is f0f.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUPS - just in case :-)

Thanks for your speedy response.
I took a complete backup of one particular website which exhibited this problem.
I clicked on the link that you referred to, and it does indeed show me the libraries. I saw one item: FOF (not F0F) with an author of Akeeba. I chose to remove that one by uninstalling it.The site seems to be working okay but even so, having removed this file, I can't install the new version 4.1.4.
I've restored the backup to the state before I uninstalled things, just in case something got broken in the middle.
I attache a screenshot of my libraries page, which I see when I click on the link relating to the error message.
If you think I should do something from here, do let me know.
There's no mega rush on this one, but I'd like to get my older sites up to the latest spec before I start heading into Joomla 6 land.

Chris,
fof libraries and all its different names (f0f30, fOf...) have all originally been created by Akeeba (which actually proves high quality code).
However, Akeeba has stopped using its libraries after moving to Joomla 4. In the process of moving from Joomla 3 to 4, Akeeba proposes a path to remove the libraries then, but most people choose to ignore that optional step.
So, if you still can't install J2Commerce after removing the other FOF library, it means you still have at least one more on your server, not visible from the Joomla console.
You have to look under /libraries.
Keep libraries/f0f.

I found /libraries/fof30 and /libraries/fof40
I renamed them by adding a leading underscore and J2C installed great.
Problem solved!

I suggest, when you feel comfortable all works well, to remove those directories.
'Dead code' on a web site is subject to attacks because it no longer receive security updates.
