Hi, I’m setting up a subscription product. At checkout, no payment methods are displayed (I initially set up PayPal Standard only, then added bank transfer as well).
The only error message shown says “Something went wrong in creating the token. Please try again.” but even when I try again, no payment methods appear. What should I check to fix it?
Thanks

Ps the product is "Abbonamento (con rinnovo automatico)"

Olivier

Hi Antonio,

it looks like the API fields for PayPal may not be set properly, breaking the Ajax calls (as the token is not preperly created) and therefore the showing of payments.

Please make sure the settings are correct in the PayPal plugin.

Thank you, Olivier. Actually, I’ve never set up the APIs over the years because sales have always worked fine without them.
This notice appears in PayPal:

NVP/SOAP will no longer be supported
PayPal will no longer support NVP/SOAP options, including Express Checkout.
We will soon stop supporting Express Checkout integrations.
We recommend using PayPal Checkout instead of outdated authorisations.
Are you using a direct (custom) application or a partner (third-party) application?
Direct (custom application)
Partner (third-party application)
How can I upgrade Express Checkout?
Continue with obsolete authorisations

The link in the J2Commerce configuration leads to a non-existent page.
How should I proceed?
Thank you

Olivier

Hello Antonio,

please find the right links at https://docs.j2commerce.com/payment-methods/paypal-payment-plugin/#parameters-

Olivier, thanks, but I’m a bit confused. The instructions at the link (the ones for Jotform) mention NVP/SOAP credentials, but on PayPal I see that they’re no longer in use.
I’ve tried creating an app instead; I have the client ID and password, but not the signature.
PayPal’s interface is becoming more and more like Meta’s business tools…

Olivier

Ok Antoio,

when you log into your PayPal account, on the top right corner you have an icon like this: </>

Select it. It takes you to the developer side of things.

There is a tab 'Apps and Credentials' on the left hand.

Create app is what you seem to have done. Do it in sandbox mode for your tests.

That should create an app under REST API apps and you will get all the info you need to setup the plugin in J2Commerce.

Thanks, Olivier. What was confusing me was the ‘API Signature’ field in the plugin settings.
I’ve done everything, but I’m getting the error “Security header is not valid” for both the sandbox and the live environment check.

Olivier

Ok, you also need to update the PayPal plugin or else it won't work Antonio.

Olivier, I’m sorry to take up your time, but I must be missing something. Isn’t the PayPal Standard plugin installed alongside the component? I’ve updated J2Commerce to version 4.1.2 (I wasn’t notified that updates were available), and the plugin is on version 4.0.1
Among the PayPal extensions here on the site, I can only see the two versions “PayPal Payments Advanced” and “PayPal Payments Pro” (available ONLY in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom), not for me.
Am I missing something?
The PayPal credentials check keeps returning “Security header is not valid”. Also, what is the “API Signature” field for if it isn’t provided with the REST APIs?

Olivier

Sorry Antonio, when I said 'update the PayPal plugin', I meant 'update the credentials'. Sorry it was not clear. And yes, the core PayPal extension is the one to use.

The signature is needed, you can't go without it, that is why you are getting the error.

 To create an API signature:

  1. Hover over your name and then click Account Settings from the dropdown menu.
  2. On the Account access page, click Update for the API access item.
  3. Click Continue with out-of-use NVP/SOAP credentials. Select 'Direct'. Give a reason then select Continue with deprecated credentials.

This is temporary as PayPal will move on from NVP/SOAP.

Olivier, so I don’t need to use the API Rest as you mentioned earlier, OK.

I did exactly what you told me to do; I now have the API signature too. I’ve entered the details in the ‘PayPal Standard for J2 Store’ plugin settings, but the live credentials check keeps saying ‘Security header is not valid’.

I don’t know if this information is helpful, but the TLS server check says: ‘6: Could not resolve host: tlstest.paypal.com’.

Do I need to change any other settings? For example, “Choose the Callback URL to be used for IPN notifications” or set “Validate IPN” to No?

Olivier

Remember Antonio, the sandbox and live creedentials ARE different. That is probably the issue. You need to create signatures for both sandbox and live.

As far as the callback URL, use the default and choose another option if the one selected does not provide good results.
