Is there no way to send downloadable attachments to the client directly via email?

what kind of attachments do you want to send? Downlodable products, invoices, ...? In what context?

We do not have this functionality right now (a downloadable product as attachment). This is a tricky one as zip files, for instance, may not reach the destination (policies of emailers to ban certain files...).
On the other end, a link would not have these issues.
However, it would need to be done in such a way the download link would 'bypass' the user login (by adding a token of some sort).
Very interesting suggestion but it needs to be studied and implemented.
