Hi,

There is a variable under Configuration - Cart, with the label "Clear Cart data Older than".

I have set this value to 1 week, thinking that abandoned carts would be automatically deleted after this time period. But that doesn't happen. We have to delete them manually.

Have I misunderstood this variable, or is it a bug?

Goran,

Sorry for the delay. You are correct (however it's not a bug) .  What gets cleared are the carts and the cart items tables (which contain both carts that turned into orders and ones that didn't (so it can get pretty big on active sites.  What you are referring to are the orders that are Unpaid in the orders list (I believe). These are customers who made it to the final page of the checkout and never completed the order. They are two different items, but the wording can be confusing and is totally understandable. I am thinking about building an app that would allow you to create an abandoned cart email that gets sent out to unpaid orders and if the customer doesn't place an order within X number of days, then it would automatically delete those orders (so you at least have a chance to convert some of those into new customers).

You can read more about it in the Support doc here:
https://docs.j2commerce.com/set-up/configuration#cart-

Hope this helps clear up any confusion and we will work on making items like this less confusing in the future.

Thank you for yoour reply.

Yes I was referring to unpaid orders. Sounds like a good solution.
