Antonio Cornacchia

Hello, I have completed work on my client's website and was about to finally purchase the plugin/app for subscriptions, but at this point I would like to understand what happens with the transition from J2Store to J2Commerce. Will the plugin work on both, or will I have to purchase it again? And, while we're at it, when do you plan to end the free period for the component? If I remember correctly, there will only be the Developer version, right? What will be the final prices for the component and the plugin/app (Subscriptions And Memberships)? The client is asking me to compare it with Shopify, which costs less than €250/year for small businesses like his.
Thank you for your patience in responding.

Olivier

Hello Antonio,

going from J2Store to J2Commerce is trivial right now, it is the same component, rebranded, rid of bugs and revamped in some areas. But data is stored the same, the extension works the same.

We have decided to keep the PRO extension free of charge, even though it is not yet reflected on the site.

You will only pay for add-ons that are needed on top of the basic functionality of the PRO version.

Olivier.

Antonio,

Addin on top of what Olivier mentioned: We decided to make the core component free moving forward. Simple store's can be run using the core component and they would be able to use it for free. If a store owner needs additional functionality that can be found in one of our other J2 extensions, then they would have to pay for the license in order to get support, new releases, etc. Licenses are good for their length of term (usually either 1 or 2 years depending on option they select at purchase). When J2Commerce 5 comes out, your license would cover both versions of the plugin until you either renew or let it expire.

We want to make sure we are fair with you and the rest of the J2 community while also making sure we are able to feed our families (while helping everyone else feed theirs).

Soooo. the answer to your question is this - the yearly cost for your client can be as low as the yearly license for the subscription app (which appears to be 50% less than the client's initial estimate of Shopify costs). Most subscription services on shopify make their money from wither adding an additional % to each subscription or making you use their merchant accounts (which also charge more than standard rates). None of these issues apply to the Memberships & Subscriptions app as you pay once a year (or once every two years - which would cost your client almost the same as the base yearly shopify expenses) and the only other expsense would be the merchant processing fees from their processor...

Hope this helps clear away some of the fog...

Adam
