Hello Olivier and J2commerce crew,

I have found an issue with the Quantity Dropdown plugin in J2Commerce.

The idea is to let customers select the number of persons (e.g., 1 or 2) for a travel product. However, on our Joomla 5 test site, the calculation is wrong:

  • On the product page, the total price is not updated correctly when a quantity is selected from the dropdown.

  • In the cart, the total is also incorrect and does not reflect the correct quantity multiplied by the product price.

Examples:

Could you please check this? It seems there is a compatibility issue in Joomla 5 that causes the Quantity Dropdown calculations to fail.

Thanks again for excellent J2Commerce, and sorry for my frustration, but we´re SO close.
Alle the best Ulric

Olivier

Hello Ulric,

I have an update to the plugin, not released yet. Please find it attached and see if that fixes your issues. Unzip first then install the included zip file.

Thank you, Olivier, for always replying and coming up with solutions.
It’s the end of the day here in Denmark, while I guess you are just starting a new J2Day somewhere further west.

I’ll dive into your zip file tomorrow – really looking forward to it. and get back to you.

Best regards,
Ulric

Thank You Olivier,

I installed the unofficial Quantity Dropdown plugin. The cart now calculates correctly 👍 but on the product page the total does not multiply when selecting 2 persons — it still shows the single-person price (though the cart adds it up correctly).

You can see it here:

Is there something we can do about that? Or you can do 🤓

Best regards,

Hello Ulric,

glad we are going into the right direction!

There are many javascript errors on the page and it may be preventing other scripts to run.

Can you turn off smartlook from your test site? It really messes things up it seems.

Good Evening Olivier,

Great to hear we’re moving in the right direction.

I’ve checked the J5 test page and Smartlook isn’t loading (not in files, template custom code, DB, or DevTools). If you’re still seeing it, could you please share the exact script URL or a console stack/screenshot?

I can also disable minify/merge and retest to rule out bundling issues.

Best regards,
Ulric

Olivier

Thanks for that, it makes a huge difference.

Could you check the credentials you added to the ticket? I can't seem to be able to access your site's admin console to check how the product is setup. Thanks!

Thanks for updating the credentials.

You were missing the Quantity Dropdown add-on setting: Multiply Price Based on Quantity - yes

Hello Olivier,

I’ve tested the **Quantity Dropdown** plugin with *Multiply Price Based on Quantity = On*.

Joomla 3 (works as expected):

 1 person → “Kr. 28.885,00”
 2 persons → “Kr. 53.770,00”

Joomla 5 (current behaviour):

1 person → “Kr. 28.885,00 x 1 (28885.00)”
2 persons → “Kr. 26.885,00 x 2 (53770.00)”
(cart totals are correct, only the display differs from J3)

See J5 https://williamsrejser.dk/wrj5/destinationer/tibet/oplev-the-valley-of-the-cats-i-tibet-2

BUT the customer actually likes showing the per-person price with “x quantity”, but they would prefer to **remove the parentheses**, so the output is simply:

1 person → “Kr. 28.885,00 x 1
2 persons → “Kr. 26.885,00 x 2

In addition, they are very happy that no price shows until a quantity is selected (whitespace placeholder). Ideally, it would be even better if we could insert custom text/HTML there instead of whitespace (perhaps via override, since the plugin has a tmpl folder).

Is it possible to adjust the formatting (remove parentheses), and could the placeholder text be made configurable or overridable?

Best regards,
Ulric

Hello Ulric,

I am adding this as requests for improvements to the plugin. Glad that the remaining issues were solved.

Hello Olivier,

Thanks for adding my notes as feature requests — much appreciated. I just want to clarify that I fully understand these are improvement requests. The only reason I mentioned them was because the Quantity Dropdown behaved differently in Joomla 5 compared to Joomla 3, where no price was shown until a quantity was selected.

We actually found that behavior very positive, and the customer is happy with it. So we are going live with Joomla 5 as it is now. The other points are just improvement ideas for the future, and I will add some of these thoughts to your “feature requests” section under support as well.

Thanks again for your support and for listening.

Best regards,
Ulric

Olivier

You are welcome, Ulric.

When the plugin was updated to Joomla 4, the original team of developers changed a few things and we are trying to improve on that and ensure all works seemlessly, thanks to support and feedback we receive.

Much appreciated :-)

Olivier.
