Hi Guys,

Just a small thing, in my new site (Joomla5+) I am trying to install the usps advanced. I am assuming from the J2Commerce documentation the usps plugin should be lurking around in my exstension manager.

https://docs.j2commerce.com/j2commerce/shipping-methods/usps-advanced is the page I am refering to.

I looked in the extension manager and it is not installed there. I looked on the USPS site and found I could not just access an postal shippping app.

I have a running (Joomla 3) site already using this app, so I looked in the extension manager and of course it is present and working. I am already signed up with the USPS so I expected to be able to move my account numbers to activate the usps plugin, as I already have done with the Canadian postal app.

Wondered if you had any suggestions for me. To download from somewhere or copy from the running site the USPS extension.

Oh by the way the link "add more shipping methods" on the shipping methods page is unfortunately returning a 404 page.

Really happy with the J2Commerce by the way,

James

James,

Thank you for letting me know about the broken link in the component. What version of J2Commerce are you currently running?

Regarding the USPS app, we have two versions (regular and advanced) that we are almost done migrating for Joomla 5/J2Store/J2Commerce 4. Can I email you the beta version so you can test with your existing account to make sure it works as intended? If yes, all I ask is that you reply to this with the results so we know it's ready to release...

Glad you are enjoying J2Commerce (like we are).

Hi Adam,

I would be more than happy to install the beta version, glad I can do something usefull for you. The version of your J2commerce is 40.10 pro.

The version of the USPS app is the "advanced" in my live site and I want to continue using it in the new site. I will keep notes on installing the app and of course let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the help,

James

I just emailed you the beta version for Joomla 5. Please reply back with any issues or if it is working for you with your J3 settings.

Hi Adam,

I installed the USPS pro app in my Joomla 5 - J2Commerce site using the same information as my older live site that is using the same app.

I went fine, and it says it is enabled, but it is wanting a License key entering in the box at the head of the page. Just above the API username and postal code. I put in what I think is my Licence key, (this was last used 20 yrs ago when the site was built) I'm supprised I still have the notebook it is written in.

I'm wondering if Is there an API I have to get or download that I have missed? I am not sure how to check that.

Thanks

James

James,

The license key is for a future version of the app where we may actually get paid for all this work, but in the meantime, you don't need to put anything in there (primarily because there is nothing to put in there yet) ;)

Other than that issue, is it grabbing the rates as it did on the J3 site?

As I don't need the licence key I made a customer (A USA one) and went right though the checkout and got as far as the checkout page, confirming the shipping address, clicking the "Continue" button to move to the "Shipping and payments" does not go to the page. But does try to connect I can see the little cirular arrow moving for a moment then nothing.

I checked the Joomla users for the "customer" and he was entered in there also entered in the J2Commerce Customers. Then I closed the site.

But unfortunately when I went to the site (frontend) I realized I should login as the customer. But I cannot get the Login module to appear in the front end, even though it is set to published its position is login, so I tried different positions to no avail. This is a Joomla module I assume?

So I can't sign in to continue my customer shopping. I can't tell if the cart held the order though the users and customers are still in there.

James,

Can you add you login creds in the fields below so I can take a look?

Hi Adam,

I sent it to your e-mail account.

James,

Couple items I noticed when I logged in:
None of the critical J2 menu items were created so I took the liberty of doing that for you.
I created a Hidden Menu (that is not shown on the frontend) and added new menu items for Shopping Cart, Checkout, and My Account pages.

I you want to add a link on the front end of the website to any of those, I would recommend using the menu alias menu type and point it to one of the menu items in the hidden menu.

Also the use test server was set to Yes, but my guess is the api key you are using is for the production server so it was not showing any results. (I changed it to No)

I found a bug when selecting the Enable both priority and express flat rate box services setting - fixed and updated on your site.

I changed the rate setting from Retail to Commercial which uses your USPS account's rate instead of the full price rate for shipping (it will help reduce attrition at checkout) but if you wish to change the rate back to retail then you can obviously do so.

For testing the shipping rates without having to go through the checkout each time, you can simply use the estimate shipping and tax option on the shopping cart page and manually enter the address info - if it displays rates there, it will display those same rates at checkout.

If everything else seems to work as before, let me know and I will update this extension and you should be able to get future updates for this when they come out.

Hi Adam,

Thank you very much everything seems to be working ok. Now I need to read up on the menu types as well as a few other things.

My live site was built using Joomla 2 and the orginal J2store a long time ago and just kept getting updated and not really changed. It just keeps working. Now I'm playing catch-up, with Joomla 5.

Again thank you kindly.
