Is there a planned release for Joomla version 6.x in the near future? Currently, while testing our website, we have to disable all J2Commerce-related items in the website extension manager to access the front-end—backend errors out as well when accessed from the administration.

Yes, Scott, we are actively working on the next generation of J2Commerce that will be fully compatible with Joomla 6 and going forward.
What holds us for an immediate release is the library J2Store was built on, which is not compatible with Joomla 6. So we had to rebuild the extension from the ground up.
We are making great progress but we will ask for your patience on this one!

Hello Scott,
You'll be notified in the Joomla console, on this site and on the Joomla Extensions Directory once the version is available for Joomla 6.
We'll also send out an annoucement to people registered to our newsletter, so make sure you are signed in!
