The current method of managing the inventory of a single physical product through Joomla’s native multilingual content system seems unnecessarily risky and, frankly, rather impractical. Each translation effectively becomes a separate product with its own stock, price and variants.

Another major issue is importing and exporting multilingual products. I have therefore contacted Roland from RO CSVI and suggested adding support for importing and exporting J2Commerce products together with their Falang translations:

Hi,

Roland didn't want to develop support for Falang. I decided to do it myself. Today I prepared a complete Ro CSVI plugin for J2Commerce (export/import) that supports translating content from com_content within the Falang component. I’ve tested it, and everything works 100%. The plugin is commercial, so I’m not publishing it. I’ve sent my modification to the author. We’ll see what he says.

Great news for multilingual J2Commerce stores!

Roland has agreed to extend the RO CSVI J2Commerce integration with support for Falang translations. The implementation will be based on the patch I submitted and is expected to be included in the next release cycle.

RO CSVI will remain responsible for the entire import and export process. It will handle both the J2Commerce product data and the translated Joomla article content stored by Falang.

This works particularly well because J2Commerce products are based on Joomla com_content articles. Falang manages translations of their textual fields, including titles, aliases, descriptions and metadata, while RO CSVI imports and exports all the relevant content and product data.

For multilingual stores, I find Falang considerably more practical than Joomla’s native translation and article association system. Falang also supports automatic AI-powered translations through DeepL, Google and Microsoft.

Together, RO CSVI, J2Commerce and Falang provide a complete and highly practical workflow for managing multilingual online stores. I will be happy to help test the integration before its official release.

I am genuinely pleased to see that the bulk actions idea has become a permanent part of the component. Adding it to the existing batch dropdown is probably a better solution than maintaining two separate plugins. I am also very happy that the filter field types will be configurable directly in J2Commerce. 

After migrating from VirtueMart, I have noticed just how large the difference between the two systems is.

I migrated the same catalogue of approximately 2,500 products. Exporting the complete VirtueMart catalogue with RO CSVI takes around 45 seconds. Exporting the equivalent J2Commerce catalogue takes less than four seconds. This is not a small improvement -it is a completely different level of performance!! :-D

The difference in filtering is equally noticeable. In VirtueMart, the external Breakdesign filter takes the customer away from the current category and opens a separate search-results page. I never understood why filtering could not simply update the existing product list while preserving the current category.

With J2Commerce, filtering feels like a natural part of the product list rather than a separate system attached to the shop. It is cleaner, faster and gives developers much more freedom to build advanced tools around it.

The further I progress with the migration, the more clearly I can see the architectural advantage of J2Commerce over VirtueMart. It is not merely a newer replacement—the difference in everyday work, performance and flexibility is enormous.

So it finally happened. With some determination from my side, it worked. ;-)

Today RO CSVI officially released full export/import support for J2Commerce.

Product export and import now works with Falang support. There is also full support for Joomla custom fields and Joomla tags for J2Commerce.

For me this is a very important step, because without proper import/export it is hard to use bigger store in real daily work. Now J2Commerce becomes much more serious as production store solution.
