Assigning the user group by product works great. Would love the option to assign by category.

Add to User Groups plugin - option to assign by category
This is a public ticket
Everybody will be able to see its contents. Do not include usernames, passwords or any other sensitive information.

Basically, perform the same functionality only allow the user group to be set at the category level so you don't have to set it up for each product in the same category?

Correct. For the majority of the "products" loaded, the registrants go to the same user group.
