I would love to replace my current invoicing system with J2Commerce. If I was able to create customers (ideally from core Contacts), generate and send invoices...that would be awesome :)

Mary,
You can do that with the current system by creating the customers (in the backend), then you can create the order in the backend and hit the send button to invoice to your client.
You could probably even tie in the partial payment app for larger projects...

I guess I expected to see a "new" button here. A google seach says "To create a customer in J2Store, navigate to the "Customers" page, click the plus sign to add a new customer",but I don't see any obvious plus sign either. I must be missing something.

You are right. I will take a deeper look tomorrow, but once that inew customer button is there, the rest should be much smoother :)

Hi Mary,
in J2Commerce, customerrs are created when users order or if an order is created manually, this is why there is no 'New' button in the customer view at the moment.
However we do agree this functionality needs to be added to J2Commerce, if not in core, as a separate plugin.
We could envision that the data could be partially populated by data coming from Contacts, it's a great idea.
So, we don't have an immediate solution for you right now, but something we would like to implement soon.
Olivier.

Mary,
I knew there was a way to do what you wanted. It took me a minute to remember, but if you want to create a new J2 Customer and Joomla user in one shot (that you could then link to a contact to take even further), what you need to do is publish the J2 User Register plugin that is in the User plugin group. This will add the basic billing address form to the front-end Joomla registration form as well as the backend-user profile under the Manage Users area.
So... if this is going to live on your own website and not have a front-end registration page then you would simply create a new user and before you save their profile, look for the 'User Details' tab (that name will change in the future to something more obvious) and then fill out their billing address and then save.
This will not only create the Joomla user, but also create the J2 Customer which would then allow you to create new client invoices in the backend and once they have been created, simply push a button in the order to send to the client. You can customize the email they receive in the Design > Email Templates area.
Let me know how this works for you and if there is anything else we can do to assist!

Mary,
Glad to help. I will add that since you are using in a way that is a little different than intended, you may find additional speed bumps along the way. If you do , just reach out to us and we'll figure out how to make it work for you. I've never thought to use it like that myself, but it does picque my interest... :)
